Cleaning silos in production facilities

Build-up inside an industrial silo can reduce usable storage capacity or carry old material into the next production batch. We remove deposits from the walls, cone and outlet, with the cleaning finish agreed for the silo's next use.

Our services

We clean bulk-storage silos used in cement works, manufacturing facilities and food processing plants. Cleaning is planned around the stored material and the filling, transfer and discharge equipment connected to the vessel.

Our approach

Cleaning equipment and vessel protection

We consider methods operated from outside the vessel first and protect liners, probes, aeration equipment and other internal fittings during removal. Released material also needs a controlled path out.

Discuss silo cleaning
Cleaning method

Areas reached by remote cleaning equipment

Connected equipment is isolated before deposits are disturbed.

  • Stored materialWe consider the material now present, including caking, moisture exposure, contamination or other changes during storage.
  • Vessel constructionOpenings, liners and internal fittings affect which surfaces equipment can reach without damage.
  • Cleaning methodThe tool and contact method must be able to loosen the deposit.
  • Required finishThe cleaning finish is set by the next task, while quality release, structural testing and other specialist checks remain separate.

Common cleaning work

When a silo needs cleaning

Restricted flow, retained product, reduced capacity and surfaces hidden from inspection can all point to material remaining inside a silo. These pages explain the main cleaning problems and how they differ.

Silo Cleaning Services

Cleaning results and specialist checks

We identify the areas reached and residue removed. Structural testing, quality release and fumigation clearance remain separate specialist activities.

How the work is carried out

Silo cleaning process

Before deposits are disturbed, connected plant, access and the route for released material are controlled.

Cleaning requirement

We establish whether the job needs bulk emptying, blockage clearance, surface cleaning or preparation for inspection.

Make the silo safe for cleaning

Connected equipment must be isolated, stored energy controlled and inadvertent restart prevented before work begins.

Remove the deposit

Material is loosened and collected with equipment suited to the vessel, deposit and receiving arrangement.

Check the cleaned areas

We identify the areas reached and note visible damage, restrictions or residue that still needs separate attention.

Industrial silo cleaning for UK processing plants

Silo Cleaning Services cleans industrial bulk-storage vessels at manufacturing sites, cement works and food processing plants across the UK. We remove retained product, hardened deposits and other build-up from the parts of a vessel that normal discharge does not clear. The stored material matters: moisture, compaction, contamination and product change can alter both the removal method and the hazards involved. We consider non-entry equipment first and protect liners and internal fittings during removal. Cleaning remains separate from structural testing, product release and specialist treatment. Our completion information identifies the areas reached, retained material removed, visible findings and any access limits.

Silo cleaning questions

Silo cleaning questions

Common questions about silo cleaning, access and the limits of the service.

When is silo cleaning needed?

Cleaning may be needed when deposits restrict discharge or capacity, before a product change, or to expose surfaces for inspection. Normal emptying can leave material on walls and around fittings.

Can silos be cleaned without entry?

We consider non-entry methods first. Vessel geometry, openings, internal fittings and the finish required determine whether remote equipment can reach the necessary areas.

Can other production continue?

It may be possible where the silo and connected equipment can be safely isolated from operating plant. Shared feeds, conveyors and discharge systems have to be considered before work begins.

Does cleaning include inspection or testing?

Cleaning can expose surfaces and visible defects, but structural inspection, testing, sampling and product release are separate activities unless specifically included.
