Our silo cleaning contractors remove retained deposits during planned shutdowns and before inspection or repair. Cleaning is coordinated with connected maintenance work so the vessel is not refilled while equipment beneath it is still being worked on.

Vessel and deposit
Silo construction, stored material and the surfaces needing cleaning determine the method.
Isolation responsibilities
The site and cleaning team need clear control of isolation, access and material handling before work starts.
Isolation across connected equipment
A silo can receive material through a pneumatic line or conveyor even when its own discharge has stopped. Cleaning plans therefore consider both incoming product and the machinery below the vessel. Shared feeds and transfer lines need particular attention when adjacent silos remain in use. Responsibility for isolation is agreed with the site, and the cleaning method is written for the actual vessel rather than taken from a generic shutdown document.

Preparing for inspection or repair
Residue removal can expose joints, liners and outlet components for inspection. The inspection or repair determines which areas need to be exposed and the cleaning standard required. A surface prepared for visual inspection may need further treatment before a coating repair.
Other trades may need access above or beneath the vessel during the same shutdown. The working sequence must prevent cleaning from creating unsafe conflicts around those areas.
Silo Cleaning Contractors: common questions
Who is responsible for isolating the silo?
Responsibilities must be agreed with the site before work. Cleaning should not begin on the assumption that another team has made connected plant safe.
Can cleaning precede a repair inspection?
Yes, where cleaning safely exposes the relevant surfaces. The cleaning, inspection and repair work must be coordinated so each stage has the access it needs.
Does the cleaning contractor authorise production restart?
The agreed completion process should identify the responsible site person and required checks. A cleaning completion record alone may not authorise restart.
Can another trade work beneath the silo during cleaning?
The working sequence must control falling material and access around the vessel. Simultaneous work is assessed and agreed with the site rather than assumed safe.
Is a cleaning method statement enough for a whole shutdown?
No. It covers the defined cleaning work. The site must also coordinate connected plant, other trades and any separate inspection or repair activities.
