Silo Capacity Calculator

Estimate silo volume, stored tonnage and the effect of wall build-up. We can inspect the silo and discuss cleaning, blockage removal and the measurements needed.

How can we help?

Complete the form and we will get back to you.

Volume from the silo dimensions

Use internal dimensions from drawings or safe records. The calculation covers the listed shapes and the entered freeboard. Truncated hoppers, internals and irregular deposits can change usable capacity. We can help assess a silo that does not match these shapes.

From volume to stored tonnage

Bulk density varies with the product and its condition. The tool shows an estimated range, rather than a certified stock measurement. Product data or measured density can improve the estimate. You do not need those figures to enquire about cleaning.

Wall build-up and discharge problems

An even layer of wall deposit is a simplified model of lost volume. Actual build-up may be uneven, bridged or concentrated around the outlet. Tell us about restricted flow or residues and we can discuss inspection and a suitable cleaning approach.

Planning an inspection or cleaning

We can assess the stored material, access, isolation and recovery needs. Do not enter a silo or disturb bridged material to obtain measurements. The calculator does not authorise entry or establish structural safety.

Common questions

Can I contact you without completing the tool?

No drawings, dimensions or density figures? Describe the silo and material. We can discuss an inspection and the information needed. You can enquire directly; completing the tool is optional.

Why is tonnage shown as a range?

Because bulk density varies with material condition and handling. The result is an estimate from the selected density range, not a weighing result.

Is the result my safe working capacity?

No. It is a geometric and bulk-density estimate. Use the silo's design documentation and operating limits to determine permitted loading and fill level.

Does the build-up calculation include the hopper?

No. It models an even layer on the cylindrical wall below the entered freeboard. Cone deposits, bridges and retained material at the base need separate assessment.

When does cleaning become worthwhile?

There is no single capacity-loss percentage at which cleaning becomes necessary. Consider the deposit, discharge problems, contamination concerns and the cost and disruption of cleaning.

Can a silo be cleaned without entry?

Where a silo is a confined space, avoid entry where possible. If entry is necessary, the risks must be assessed and controls planned before work starts. Whether non-entry cleaning is practicable depends on the silo, access and deposit.

Sources and limits

Geometry and the even cylindrical wall layer are calculated by the tool. Bulk density presets are indicative published ranges, rounded for planning. The model does not establish structural loading, a safe fill level, usable capacity or a cleaning method.
