Non Entry Silo Cleaning enquiry

Non entry silo cleaning removes suitable deposits with equipment operated from outside the vessel. We consider it first where the layout allows the required surfaces to be reached. Avoiding entry reduces exposure to hazards inside the silo, while the cleaning activity still needs its own controls.

Reach from available openings

Cleaning coverage depends on access positions, internal obstructions and the reach of the selected equipment.

Remote observation

The available inspection method helps show which surfaces have been reached and where uncertainty remains.

Access openings and remote reach

The position of roof and side openings determines where equipment can be introduced. Liners, probes and internal structures can restrict the cleaning path. Filling, discharge and other hazardous connected equipment must be isolated, stored energy controlled and inadvertent restart prevented before cleaning starts. Released material also needs a controlled path out of the vessel.

Limits of non-entry cleaning

Remote equipment may not reach recesses or surfaces behind internal fittings. If the required area cannot be cleaned from outside, any necessary entry is a separate confined-space operation requiring the appropriate assessment, controls, competence and emergency arrangements. For bridged grain, entry is not an acceptable clearing method; the clearing system must exclude silo entry.

Cleaning result

Restored discharge, preparation for inspection and a production changeover can require different finishes. We identify the surfaces reached and the residue removed so a blockage clearance is not mistaken for a complete internal clean. Dust, falling material, tool contact and work at height remain hazards even when nobody enters the vessel.

Non Entry Silo Cleaning: common questions

Can every silo be cleaned without entry?

No. Geometry, deposits and internal fittings can restrict remote methods. Suitability must be assessed for the actual cleaning objective.

Is non-entry cleaning risk-free?

No. Dust, falling material, machinery and access height still need appropriate controls even when nobody enters the vessel.

What if part of the silo cannot be reached?

The limitation should be recorded and a further method considered against the required result. Entry is a separate assessed operation, not an automatic next step.

Does non-entry cleaning mean connected equipment can remain live?

No. Filling, discharge and other hazardous connected equipment still need suitable isolation, stored energy must be controlled and inadvertent restart prevented.

Does restored flow mean the non-entry clean is complete?

Not necessarily. Restoring discharge may leave wall deposits or other agreed surfaces untreated. The required finish depends on what the vessel needs next.
